The food & service here has my Shanghainese grandmothers's stamp of approval. Highly recommend coming with a large group and getting the private room/banquet instead of just ordering a few dishes a la carte. They serve a LOT of dishes and you certainly will not go hungry.
Personal Favorites:
1) Drunken Chicken
2) Shanghai Style Wood Ear (I love my cold dishes)
3) Xiao Long Bao (the skins are made fresh, so they won't break easily like they do in other places)
4) Sauteed Shrimp (simple goodness)
Other 奶奶-Approved Dishes:
1) Crispy Fish with Pine Nuts (not sure what the official English name is on the menu - but it's fried with crispy bits, then topped with a red sweet & sour sauce and pine nuts)
2) Pork Belly
3) Dou Miao with Shiitake Mushrooms -

We ordered 3 dishes that was recommended by the waiter. He was nice and friendly. He recommended their famous dish--Southern California 's #1 braised pork belly 回锅肉and fresh bamboo shoot 竹笋and fresh fried bun 生煎包。
The food was ok, the braised pork belly was so oily, after eating 2 pieces, we had to drink lot of tea to get ride of that greasy feeling. Bamboo shoot and fried bun were not too bad but I don't think they worth $42.
For two people lunch, it was about $80 -

Good food and service.
Not sure why this place only has 3 stars but my experience was definitely better than that. The restaurant is fairly new and nicely decorated. Food is typical Shanghainese and good. Price is reasonable and service was attentive. Parking is plentiful.
Will definitely repeat. Highly recommend. -

Traditional Shanghai food! Tasty so good. The atmosphere is really good for family or friend reunion. And you can also watch the Shanghai local TV channel here! The feeling of back home! The only regrets thing is the Crispy Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce was sold out. We will defiantly come to the restaurant again!

This Chinese restaurant chain opened its second US location in Arcadia to serve up authentic Shanghainese style cuisine. The elevated decor promises a modern take to match the opulent interior, and indeed a dinner here churned out quality Shanghai dishes to be some of the best we had in LA.
Quick notes from a birthday meal:
+ Braised Pork in Brown Sauce: The golden standard of any Shanghainese joint is how this specialty is prepared. Fat chunks of gorgeous pork greased with great globs of candied sauce.
+ Pan Fried Pork Buns: With aromatic sesame seeds on the bottom, this grub felt soft on the top yet crispy and crowned on the bottom.
+ Xiao Long Bao: Small and sweet to the center, each was gushing with spurting juice but did not stand out as a highlight here.
+ Drunken chicken: Fresh and tender chicken that was surprisingly smooth to the touch - each absorbing a heavy dose of the rice wine.
+ Sliced roasted beef: This expensive signature carries seasoned slices fresh off the bone, served with lettuce in a bbq-type sauce.
+ Braised Duck - Refreshing appetizer of delicate duck slices with a tantalizing soy sauce base.
+ Three Cup Chicken - Clusters of meat and large garlic cloves thickened with a redolent sauce, a standard dish that anyone will easily love!
+ Fish Filet with Seaweed: Crunchy on the outside with a fluffy, grey sole in the inside, came out fresh out of the fryer.
+ Fish Head Soup: An enormous mixing pot of ingredients that came steamy last from simmering out the essence of the fish for a milky consistency.
+ Lotus Roots with Glutinous Rice: A welcome pick that introduces a unique sweet aftertaste to balance the intense savoury taste from Chinese cuisine.
+ Vegetable Rice: Oily with plenty of Shanghai green cabbage gives a greasy texture that complements well the fatty sauce from other dishes.
+ Mini Sesame Glutinous Rice Balls: for dessert, these minute doughy balls give a delightful flavour to finish off the intense meal.
The quality, small-dish plates here taste fairly consistent from the first location in Hacienda Heights. I'll definitely find myself back at this swanky eatery for a few more celebratory occasions, and the free tables here and there make this place perfect for groups and reservations!
